The two founders of the Labara winery-Dato Gagua and Shalva Sikharulidze-lived comfortable lives with families in the United States. We made the decision to return to Georgia to help our homeland exploit its 8000-year-old winemaking history. We developed a winery in Vartsikhe Village of Imereti region. This village was once famous for its winemaking traditions. In addition to making superb Georgian wine, the idea is also to make Vartsikhe again a popular destination for wine enthusiasts and to attract more visitors. The name of our winery was selected to reflect this. Labara is an ancient Kolkhetian (west Georgia) word meaning “a sunny area full of life.”
